Vivid Experience: Kilimanjaro

The Royal Navy Compass Challenge was a programme created by TTF in partnership with The Royal Navy, aimed at young people from an ethnic minority background and female students - both groups which are under-represented in the Navy. Participants were tasks with applying their problem-solving skills to a situation with simulated a real-life issue faced by the Royal Navy, and they engaged in a series of physical activities based around areas of service, using equipment and attire used in the service. 

A one-day STEM-based workshop for KS3 students delivered in school, focusing on team-building, engineering, sustainability, innovation, community engagement and environmental responsibility. 

Perfectly Pret and Taste of Pret were programmes aimed at dispelling myths about working in the catering and hospitality industry, while also creating a better understanding of transferrable work skills and career opportunities. Students competed to create a brand new quality sandwich product, with the winners invited to Pret's Head Office to pitch their lunch item. 

PruGoals was part of M&G's (formerly Prudential) nationwide commitment to social inclusion in the UK. The programme took students on an 8-month journey which aimed to empower them to increase their self-esteem, emotional wellbeing, aspirations and resilience, through the Prudential RideLondon 46 mile bike ride. As well as bikes, training and equipment, the programme provided coaching and mentoring to support the students as they prepared for the event in 2018.

Kilimanjaro was TTF's first mentoring expedition. 12 students from four schools took part in the journey to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, with each school team paired with a team of corporate mentors with who they trained for the climb and established an ongoing mentoring relationship thereafter. The trip was a huge success with schools from Manchester, Leeds and London working with corporate partners from Dell, Wates and the Education Funding Agency. 

Sky Ocean Rescue Challenge was a fully funded one day workshop developed by Sky and TTF. The programme offered the opportunity for Key Stage 3 students in England and Scotland to take part in a national competition by creating a video pitch about plastics in the ocean, as part of Sky's 'Pass on Plastics' campaign. The winning video pitch from each school was entered into the National Sky Ocean Rescue Challenge Competition. The winners were rewarded with a session at the Sky Academy Studios in London and West Lothian to work with media specialists to enhance their video campaign.

BASE is ICAEW's National Business and Accounting Competition. In 2018-19 TTF delivered in-school workshops to 12 schools across England. These workshops consisted of completing an online challenge and delivering a presentation with a set of business proposals. At the end of the workshops students were supported by TTF to submit their entries into the BASE competition.

Royal Navy: Compass Challenge

The Big Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) aimed to encourage youngsters to consider energy issues from an early age, and by harnessing their passion and commitment, to inspire their peers, families and communities to adopt positive behaviours around energy consumption. Students learnt about energy efficiency and then ran campaigns in their local communities, reporting to TTF on the results of their campaigns. The prize for the winning team was a fully funded trip to an EDF Energy power station, including a workshop and tour.

CISI: Virtual Employability Mentoring Programme

This programme was a six-session mentoring opportunity for sixth form students aimed at providing core and practical skills to assist and prepare them for their future pathways. Students were mentored by CISI employees and members of other partner organisations throughout the programme who provided invaluable advice and guidance, helping students choose their next steps into either higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

Gleeds: The Royal Refurb

The Royal Refurb was part of the 2-week Gleeds Global Challenge,  in which students worked with Gleeds volunteers to solve 'real life' hurdles during the implementation of a construction project. The programme aimed to spark interest in the construction industry, to dispel any misconceptions that the construction industry is 'just for men', and to build core skills such as resilience, team work, leadership and confidence. Over 1,500 young people took part in the Gleeds Royal Refurb, across 13 different locations in the United Kingdom, with over 449 Gleeds volunteers involved in supporting the programme. 

BT Digital Champions was an innovative programme that aimed to help thousands of people get online. With the support of BT volunteers, nearly 3,500 students gave their time to help others, resulting in over 15,000 hours spent training people on digital skills. Through the initiative, students were able to demonstrate their communication skills and develop confidence and presentation skills, while also contributing to their local communities.
